Civil engineering was seen in the foundation in France in 1716 of the bridge and 
highway corps, out of which in 1747 grew the Ecole Nationale des Ponts et Chaussees. Its teacher wrote books that was standard work on the mechanics of materials, hyderaulics and leading british engineers learned french to read them.

    John Smeaton, the first man to call himself a civil engineer, began as an instrument maker. His design was Eddystone Lighthouse. The function of civil engineering is variable. Some of them is in the field of construction, structure, transportation, irrigation, hydro power, water supply and many more.

    However in the case of Nepal Civil Engineering can be learned in certain university like Tribhuvan, Purwaanchal and Pokhara University. One of the most recognised is Institute Of Engineering, Pulchowk.
To read civil engineering in nepal, the qualification must be passed on entrance, must be more than 50% in i.s.c or in 10+2 or in oversear.
